Ridgemont Board of Education members discussed a one-to-one student-to-computer initiative at their Thursday evening meeting, and also approved a contract that will assist with the conversion of various district processes from paper-pencil to electronic submission.
Technology Coordinator Tom Mustain shared some of the plans for the one-to-one program for students in grades 7 through 12 in the 2016-17 school year. While the technology team is exploring options for managing the program, creating a student and parent handbook and a rotation schedule, the group also is discussing which learning management system to adopt.
A learning management system creates an online classroom for students to interact both with the traditional feel of a classroom and digital resources that allow students to demonstrate knowledge in new ways.
Regarding the digitizing of district paperwork, members approved a $14,200 contract with ProcessMaker beginning March 17 through June 30, 2018. This system will allow the district to digitize their processes for requisitions, time sheets, transportation and mileage requests etc.
The effort will start small, one department at a time, and work to streamline processes across the school district during the next few years, Superintendent Emmy Beeson said.
