James A. Grannison, 65, of 532 Ludlow Road, was arrested Sunday for felonious assault, domestic violence and unlawful restraint after he allegedly attacked and beat his wife.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department met with Jodi Grannison around 8:30 a.m. at the residence. She told the officers her husband had been drinking heavily and became violent after he tried to start an argument with her in their bedroom.
She said he grabbed her by the throat, attempted to strangle her and threatened to snap her neck while his hand was on her neck. She tried to leave the room but the suspect held her back by her nightgown until she struggled free.
She fled to the garage but the suspect found her and grabbed her by the hair. He allegedly slammed her into a door and wall before forcing her back into the residence.
Officers noted she complained of pain in her neck and throat. They also noted he also had a bleeding scratch on the left side of her face; a visible cut and swollen area on the left side of her forehead; and bruising on the right side of her head and on her back.
The suspect was uncooperative with officers who forcibly took him into custody and lodged him in the Logan County Jail.
• John S. Sheeley, 51, of 450 Kristina Drive, Apt. 16A, was charged Sunday with domestic violence.
Officers met with Jada M. Rine and her brother, Jessie E. Cheiky, both of 450 Kristina Drive, Apt. 16A, around 2:10 p.m. They said Sheeley came home intoxicated and belligerent.
Rine told Sheeley to go to a bedroom and he allegedly pushed her. He also tried to fight Cheiky and pushed him. The siblings had visible injuries from the altercation with Sheeley.
He was arrested and lodged in jail.
• James C. Whitmire, 42, and Kathleen M. Whitmire, 36, each was charged Thursday with domestic violence.
Officers were called to the couple’s 1060 Heritage Court residence around 11:20 p.m. after a neighbor called dispatchers to report a loud argument coming from the Whitmire residence.
Both acknowledged an argument degenerated into a fight and both had visible injuries, officers report. They also found an interior door that had been damaged in the altercation.
Women charged in fight
Jennifer D. Rufus, 47, of 324 Shady Lane Drive, and Jacqueline S. Edmister, 48, of 420 E. Columbus Ave., each was charged with assault Saturday after they became intoxicated and fought at Rufus’ residence.
The women were separated by the time officers arrived with Edmister transported home by a friend.
Both had visible injuries from the 11:55 p.m. fight, officers report, and both were issued summonses in lieu of arrest.
Motorist charged with OVI
Brendon T. Gladue, 35, of 1600 S. Detroit St., Apt. 5, was charged Friday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He also was issued traffic citations for speeding, driving under suspension and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
An officer on patrol in the 1400 block of south Main Street at 11:05 p.m. tracked Gladue’s southbound sport utility vehicle traveling at 55 mph in a 35-mph zone. The officer turned his northbound cruiser around and finally caught up to Gladue as he parked outside his residence.
Upon contact with the motorist, the officer reports he detected a strong odor of alcohol while Gladue was seated in the SUV. The officer also noted the motorist’s eyes were glossy and bloodshot; his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet when he got out of the vehicle.
Field sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence and he was taken into custody.
His breathalyzer sample was recorded at 0.147.
An open can of alcoholic beverage was removed from his vehicle and dumped.
