Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Logan County Health District staff Wednesday regarding a phone scam by an individual impersonating staff from the LCHD.
A Bellefontaine woman said she received an automated call this week that used a (614) area code, telling her to take care of an $800+ balance with the Logan County Health District, and directing her to call the health district to take care of the balance.
“After talking with each department within our office and with the woman again, we determined it was likely a scam phone call,” health district officials said. “She said she tried to call that number back and the call would not go through, which was what prompted her to call us directly.”
The health district can be reached directly at (937) 592-9040 for anyone questioning a similar type of phone call.
Pair charged with persistent disorderly conduct
Joseph Lebron, 26, and Jose E. Rodriguez, 25, both of Cleveland, each were charged with persistent disorderly conduct relating to an incident early Saturday morning in Lakeview.
Deputies responded about 12:30 a.m. to 11229 Maple St. on a 911 call with individuals in the background stating that someone had a gun and two men had injuries to their faces from an altercation.
When deputies arrived at the home, they were informed that the property was being rented out that evening by some individuals attending a birthday party.
Deputies located Lebron, who had sustained bleeding facial injuries and showed signs of heavy intoxication. Other individuals at the home stated that Lebron and Rodriguez had been in several verbal altercations throughout the evening.
Deputies then also located Rodriguez inside a bedroom. He also displayed signs of intoxication and had bleeding facial injuries as well. When asked about his injuries, he reportedly stated, “I fell.”
Inside the home, the carpet had sustained blood stains in a number of the rooms.
Deputies were unable to locate a reported pistol that had been observed by party-goers.
Lebron reportedly became combative with deputies after he was placed under arrest and he was placed in leg shackles. At the Logan County Jail, he began striking a holding cell door and was placed in the restraint chair. He also was charged with resisting arrest.
Rodriguez also was placed under arrest and transported to the jail.
• William Hampton, 19, of 720 W. Columbus Ave., Apt. 2, Bellefontaine, was charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer related to a traffic stop in the city early Wednesday morning.
Deputies on patrol about 1:30 a.m. observed his vehicle operating without headlights in the area of west Sandusky Avenue and north Detroit Street and initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle in the area of Pratt Street just north of Sandusky Avenue.
During the stop, deputies said Hampton was on the phone and he refused to end the call and initially declined to provide deputies with his name or other personal identifying information.
Additional LCSO units and an officer from the Bellefontaine Police Department also arrived on scene, and Hampton still refused to get off the phone and told officers to “take him to jail” instead. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the jail.
He also was cited for no operator’s license and received a headlight citation.
Daughter issued domestic violence charge

Deputies responded to the home about 7:40 p.m. on a report from Joe Oakley and his wife, Michelle, regarding Michelle’s daughter, Cruz.
Cruz reportedly had become angry while fixing a plate of food and then threw the plate across the kitchen onto the wall and ceiling. Then during a verbal dispute with Mr. Oakley, Cruz allegedly punched him in the face below his left eye.
Cruz was placed under arrest and lodged in the jail.
