Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department investigated a single-vehicle crash in the 800 block of north Main Street that occurred shortly after 2:35 a.m. Friday.
Witness told officers that the driver of a gray 2002 Ford Mustang convertible fled northeast from the scene. Described as a shirtless white male with brown shorts, the motorist appeared disoriented just after the crash and briefly left the scene, witnesses report.
He returned to the heavily damaged vehicle and appeared to search for something inside before giving up and fleeing the scene.
The department’s canine unit was called to search for the driver as officers feared he may have sustained serious injuries and needed medical attention.
The motorist was not located.
The car had left the roadway and hit a telephone pole snapping it off at ground level.
Mom faces disorderly charge
Kimberly S. Ritter, 44, of 620 N. Detroit St., was charged Thursday with disorderly conduct.
A resident of 850 Bonnie Lane reported she was arguing with Kyle Poe, of 850 Bonnie Lane, Apt. 712, near the mailboxes for the complex around 10:35 p.m.
Officers met with Ritter and she told them confronted Poe as he drove into the parking lot and hit him on the side of his head. She was upset because earlier in the night he made Ritter’s daughter, Tabbitha Ritter, also of 850 Bonnie Lane, Apt. 712, exit a vehicle while on State Route 540 near U.S. Route 33 and walk.
Poe, who had reddened right ear from Ritter’s strike, did not want to pursue charges.
Ritter was issued a summons for alarming neighbors in the complex with her actions.
