Menyon Y. Matthews, 41, of Marion, was charged with a third-degree felony count of possession of methamphetamine during a traffic stop Friday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol about 8:15 p.m. on east State Route 47 observed a vehicle that did not have an illuminated license plate light and upon checking the vehicle registration, deputies found that it was expired.
A traffic stop was conducted on S.R. 47 near Township Road 230. While speaking with the driver and the passenger, Matthews, deputies observed that Matthews was clutching a bag against her chest very rightly.
While speaking with Matthews, she admitted to deputies that she had used methamphetamine several hours ago. She told them she did have some “ice” with her in the vehicle.
Inside a zipper pouch by the passenger seat, deputies located a crystal-like substance consisted with methamphetamine. A probable cause search was conducted of the vehicle, and deputies seized several glass jars with a crystal substance inside, a plastic baggie with a larger crystal shard, two used syringes, a glass pipe, and several empty containers with white powder residue.
Also inside a purse, deputies located $409 in cash, two digital scales with suspected drug residue, a metal pipe, several unused syringes, numerous unused Ziplock style baggies, a notebook with handwritten names inside and suspected marijuana blunts.
Matthews was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
No injuries reported in rollover crash
Neither Timothy A. Jenkins, 21, of Huntsville, nor his passenger reported any injuries in a one-vehicle rollover crash Saturday afternoon on State Route 540.
Deputies report Jenkins was operating a westbound 2004 Honda CR-V about 4:45 p.m. near Township Road 135 when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the right side of the road. He overcorrected, re-entered the road and went off the left side of the road.
The driver then over-corrected again and the vehicle re-entered the road and overturned onto its top, coming to a rest in the westbound lane of S.R. 540.
Damage was heavy to the sport utility vehicle, which was towed from the scene. Jenkins was cited for failure to control. He and his passenger were wearing their seat belts.
• Monica L. Shopshire, 27, of Quincy, was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign related to a non-injury crash in Quincy Friday morning.
Deputies report she was operating a westbound 2011 Kia Sorento on South Street about 7:40 a.m. and stopped at the stop sign at Carlisle Street. She then turned northbound onto Carlisle Street and was struck by a northbound 2001 Dodge Intrepid operated by Gracie M. Fry, 17, of Quincy.
Damage was heavy to the Fry vehicle and light to the Shopshire vehicle. The drivers and their passengers were wearing their seat belts or were properly restrained in child safety seats.
