Brianne N. Huffman, 31, at large, was arrested Friday for felony possession of methamphetamine and trafficking in methamphetamine. She alson was charged with illegal possession of prescription drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
She was observed driving a sport utility vehicle around 1 p.m. in the 300 block of north Madriver Street. She was stopped and taken into custody for driving without a license, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.
As part of the process to inventory the SUV before it was towed from the scene, officers called in the department’s K-9 team. Canine Boodik indicated drugs were inside a portable safe located in the SUV.
A search warrant was obtained for the safe and it was opened. Inside, officers found a bulk amount of methamphetamine and prescription opioid addiction treatment drugs. There also was packaging materials, a digital scale and marijuana inside the safe.
She was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Three charged with OVI
Amber M. Scott, 29, of 405 N. Madriver St., was charged Saturday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs after a 12:55 a.m. traffic stop.
She also was issued traffic citations for safety belt, turn signal and stop sign violations.
An officer on patrol observed Scott back a car from a south side parking spot along west Columbus Avenue into the westbound lane. Her car nearly hit another vehicle, the officer reports.
She was then observed turning northbound on Central Court and proceed to Sandusky Avenue. She failed to stop at the intersection and she did signal she was turning eastbound.
The officer continued to follow Scott onto northbound Main Street then to High Avenue before initiating a traffic stop.
While speaking with Scott sitting in the car, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol.
Field sobriety tests indicated she was impaired and her breathalyzer sample was recorded at 0.176.
• Dellzell Chenoweth, 58, of 430 Oak St., Lakeview, was charged Saturday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs around 8:05 p.m.
She drove herself to Mary Rutan Hospital’s Urgent Care, 1134 N. Main St., and staff alerted police. Officers found her car with fresh damage to the front.
Chenoweth was released after an evaluation for a sore throat. She tried to evade officers by exiting a side door and officer found her sitting on a bench.
While talking with her, officers noted her speech was slurred and other visible signs of impairment. They, like urgent care staff, noted a strong odor of alcohol while talking with Chenoweth.
She denied drinking alcohol and driving herself to the facility. Several employees reported seeing her exit the driver’s side of the car which she arrived in alone.
Results of a field sobriety test indicated she was impaired by alcohol. She refused to participate in a breathalyzer test.
Officers report she has a prior conviction from 2017.
• Joseph C. Ropp, 29, of 439 Colton Ave., was charged Feb. 24 with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and obstructing official business after a 4:20 a.m. crash in the area of Chillicothe Avenue and Seymour Street.
Witnesses report he was driving a car which hit a snow embankment. As officers approached the scene, they observed him sitting in the driver’s seat with the door open.
He claimed he was not driving and was merely looking for a lighter when officers arrived. Witnesses confirmed Ropp was the only one in the car and that he was driving it.
After detecting an odor of alcohol while talking with Ropp, officers administered field sobriety tests which indicated he was impaired. His breathalyzer sample was recorded at 0.092.
He was issued a traffic citation for failure to control.
