Benjamin Logan High School Aquatic Ecosytems students Chad Porter and Aiden Elsass work alongside teacher Spencer Reames during their class’s recent trip to the Mad River. The physical, chemical, and biological processes occurring in lakes, streams, and wetlands are studied throughout the course that is open to juniors and seniors. Students to visit local sites like the Mad River to take measurements and collect samples to be analyzed in the laboratory. The students shared that it increases their interest in the Mad River and their desire to protect the river. They also said they want to discover more about the river and the life forms that are found in it, including trout. BLHS Assistant Principal Jeff Amspoker traveled to the Mad River with the class and said, “The experience is exactly what education should be. Building a base of knowledge and then applying that knowledge in real world environments.
