Lucille E. Campbell (Thaxton) of Bellefontaine passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at Logan Acres Senior Community at the age of 87.
She was born in Logan County, Ohio to Wendell and Mary Ellen (Schrader) Thaxton. She married William Campbell in 1954 and he preceded her in death in 2016.
Places of employment included Westinghouse, Franz & Contner Eye Care, Mary Rutan Hospital a West Liberty bus driver. She was a woman with a heart filled with hospitality who cared for her family and friends without a lot of fanfare, surprising others with home baked goods or a chat on the porch. She worked alongside her husband on the farm for many, many years, raised and kept her 5 children in good health, instilled a strong work ethic and clothed them with her homemade creations. She especially enjoyed gardening, baking pies, square dancing with High Point See Saws and, camping all over the US. Her home was a warm and welcome place where kids and grandkids had a ton of fun playing board games and putting puzzles together. She graduated from Huntsville High school where she was a cheerleader and earned the nickname “Lucy Long Legs”. Her hug attacks, grins, and eagerness for new adventures will always be remembered.
Lucille is survived by four children: Pamela (Randy) Black, Denver, CO; Cynthia (Ronald) Kohlrieser, Russells Point, OH; Gary Campbell, Belle Center, OH; Beth (Michael) Tevis, Bellefontaine, OH; ten grandchildren: Travis Miller, Matthew (Denise) Jarvis, Amy Archer, Chasidy (Tony) Pond, Gary Lee (Heather) Campbell, Josh (Katherine) Thompson, Nicholas (Mandy) Thompson, Tyler (Emily) Thompson and Codey (Abbi) Tevis and 21 great grandchildren; siblings, Lois Ruble, Lillian Willeke and Howard Thaxton and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son Brian Campbell; granddaughter Shannyn Campbell; and, siblings Darryl Thaxton, Dorothy Tracey and Cletus Thaxton.
The family sends many thanks to the staff of Logan Acres for their attentive and tender care of our mother these past four years.
A Graveside service will take place at Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty on Friday, October 16th at 11:00 am.
