Carl M. “Sonny” Carson Jr., 84, of Grayson, Ky., passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
He was born Jan. 14, 1936, in Hardin County, a son of the late Carl Carson Sr. and Eva Marie Dughman Carson.
Carl was a member of the Wilson Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Grayson, and he retired from AK Steel in Ashland, Ky. No one was a stranger to Carl and he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Jean Dickens Carson, and two brothers, Edward Carson and Charles “Ox” Carson; and sister-in-law, Peggy Carson.
Carl is survived by one son, Carl “Bud” Carson (Kimberly) of Grayson, Ky.; one daughter, Wanda Jackson of Grayson; three grandchildren, Jeremy D. Carson, Jason C. Carson and Brittany Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Nova Bartee and London Bartee; three brothers, John (Diane) Carson, Robert “Kit” Carson (Linda) and Richard “Dick” Carson (Bev), all of Kenton; three sisters, Peg (Bob) Cronley of Columbus; Jean (Joe) Kearns of Kenton and Kathy Beair of Lakeview; two sisters-in-law, Anita Carson of Mayberry and Brenda Carson of Kenton. He also leaves behind many family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
A graveside memorial service is at 3 p.m Friday, Oct. 16, at the East Carter Memory Gardens in Grayson, Ky., with Brother Joe Ed Rice officiating.
