LAUREN BURKHARDT PHOTOEllie Irick and her peers in the Bellefontaine Elementary School’s Leadership Club add thumbprints designed to look like hearts to their Door of EnCOURAGEment entry during March. The other side of the door reads “Be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud,” a quote by Maya Angelou. This week, the Doors of EnCOURAGEment entries can be dropped off at Bellefontaine Storage, 2754 U.S. S. Route 68, from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 4 to 6 p.m. Friday or 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, in preparation for the downtown display of doors during the next month. Social distancing and safety precautions will apply during the drop off, with participants asked to stay in their vehicles until directed otherwise. An auction is planned for 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, in the downtown area. All proceeds benefit the Logan County Cancer Society, which offers financial assistance to Logan County residents with a cancer diagnosis to cover expenses such as medication, equipment, supplies, wigs and other items, including gas cards to help with treatment-related travel costs. The display previously had been planned for the spring, but was postponed at that time because of COVID-19.
