Jake J. Harmon, 23, of 2024 W. State Route 273, Belle Center, was charged with abusing harmful intoxicants and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of a crash early Monday morning, about a month after he was arrested for a similar incident involving the same charges.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating an eastbound car on County Road 29 at County Road 1 about 12:45 a.m. when he crossed over to C.R. 1 and went off the right side of the road, continuing to drive through a field and wood line, coming to rest against a tree after striking it.
Deputies on patrol in the area observed dim headlights in the wood line about 300 yards south of C.R. 29 and stopped to investigate. They found Harmon’s vehicle against a tree with heavy damage to the front. The driver was not responsive at first, but was breathing.
Once deputies were able to wake up Harmon, they said he appeared disoriented and his pupils were dilated. Inside the vehicle, deputies located multiple aerosol cans and an alcohol can. The defendant denied any illegal activity that evening.
Macochee EMS also arrived on scene to evaluate the driver. He was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital, where his medical records were requested. After his release from the hospital, he was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Deputies previously reported Harmon was arrested for the same charge of OVI and abusing harmful intoxicants related to a crash the evening of Feb. 1 in the area of county roads 1 and 5.
Feb. 1, he told deputies he had been “huffing” an aerosol can while he was driving. He said he was uncertain where he was, but thought he was in Logan County and that he did not remember driving off the road.
Man lodged for resisting arrest
Vincent C. Thomas, 41, of 5066 U.S. Route 68, Bellefontaine, was charged with resisting arrest as a result of an incident Saturday evening at 4000 Alpine Parkway, Unit G3, Zanesfield.
Deputies responded to the address about 10:25 p.m. on a domestic violence call and were advised that Thomas had an active warrant, with a history of assault, domestic violence and resisting arrest.
A juvenile answered the door at the home and told deputies his parents had been yelling and throwing things before entering their bedroom. The boy was asked to step out to the porch as deputies entered.
Thomas and the boy’s mother would not comply with commands to exit the bedroom, so deputies approached while drawing a firearm. They found Thomas laying face down on the bed. He had blood on his knuckles, white phlegm on his mouth and was difficult to understand. Deputies were told he was under the influence of alcohol.
Deputies conducted a pat down search of Thomas and then informed him he was under arrest for the warrant. He became combative with deputies and kicked at deputies while he was lifted from the bed.
En route to the jail, Thomas began vomiting and he was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he to be restrained after he was combative with the nursing staff. After he was medically cleared, he was transported to the jail.
