Bellefontaine’s boys basketball team continues to look for the missing pieces to solve its search for a winning puzzle.
At times, the Chiefs have not looked like a team that is currently 0-16. In recent games against top Central Buckeye Conference opponents Jonathan Alder, North Union and Kenton Ridge, Bellefontaine was in striking distance for much of the games.
However, they have yet to be able to put a full game together. That was again the case Tuesday against rival Urbana. The Chiefs trailed by only three points at halftime but ended up losing by 17.
Bellefontaine hopes to play with more consistency Friday when it travels to London to face the Red Raiders (11-7, 5-2) in CBC Kenton Trail division action.
“We have to be focused and locked in,” said BHS coach Jason Calton. “London is a very talented and athletic team and they are capable of putting explosive spurts together. We have to put four solid quarters together to give ourselves a chance.”
Bellefontaine lost to London 65-37 during their earlier matchup this season.
London possesses numerous offensive weapons, led by 6-7 junior guard Trey Woodyard. He is averaging 15.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
Senior guard Isaiah Hatem had 24 points against the Chiefs in their first meeting and is scoring 12.3 ppg on the season.
Jainaz Cameron, a 6-6 junior forward, is averaging 8.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
For the Chiefs, they need to have a short memory after a rough second half in Tuesday’s loss to Urbana.
“We have to break off the rearview mirror and move forward,” said Calton after Tuesday’s game. “We just have to keep plugging away.”
