Robert Kenneth “Bob” Lescalleet, 88, of Zanesfield, passed away at 8:24 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born in Mt. Vernon on June 14, 1931, the son of the late Herman and Priscilla (Mudurka) Lescalleet.
July 23, 2011, he married Miriam A. (Watkins) Shafer, and she survives.
He is also survived by his sister, Carole (Lenny LaSala) Menelsohn of Naples, Fla.; two step-sons, Stanley ‘Ike’ (Cathi) Shafer of Worthington, and Jeff (Vicki) Shafer of Port Charlotte, Fla., 14 step-grandchildren, Raymond “Skip” Shafer, Rose Ann Zarling, Kristie (Larry) Royer, Monte (Carol) Shafer, Aimie (Steve) Fry, Stan (Jerrie) Shafer, Vikki (Dale) Arseneau, Si Shafer, Cara Knight, Michael (Sara) Shafer, Cody (Katie) Shafer, Kevin Shafer, Michelle (Jonathan) Matthews, and Candace (Alan) Coggins; many step-great and step-great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Bob grew up and graduated from high school in Utica, before serving his country in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged, he moved to the Washington D.C. area, where he attended college. His work as an educator included teaching at Ross Training Center for many years. He also volunteered his time with the Special Olympics of Logan County. He enjoyed bird watching and riding his bicycle, including completing a bicycle trip to Niagara Falls.
Pastor Keith Matthews officiates a funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at the Zanesfield Community Chapel, 4754 County Road 10, Zanesfield, Ohio, 43360. Visitation is Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine and again Friday, one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in Zanesfield Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
