Many memories of loved ones who have passed away have been shared with volunteers who are assisting with the 14th annual Lights of Love Memory Tree display, which was set up Sunday at the Carnegie Building, 140 N. Main St.
The four lighted Christmas trees in the downtown Bellefontaine location currently feature approximately 800 tags commemorating family members and friends, organizer Melody Couchman said this morning.
“There are a lot of people who are being remembered through this display,” she said of the fundraiser for the Logan County Cancer Society. “It’s pretty special that people would choose to remember their loved ones in this way in a place in our downtown where so many people pass through every day.”
Memory tags can still be purchased for $10 each by messaging the “Lights of Memory Trees” Facebook page, or by contacting Couchman at Wren’s Florist, 593-5015. While the Logan County Cancer Society is the beneficiary of the fundraiser, the display honors individuals who have passed away from any cause.
The organizer estimates that well over $100,000 has been raised for the local non-profit organization throughout the 14 years of the display, and said the display was moved from its previous location in front of the Logan County Courthouse while the courthouse was under construction.
“We are so thankful to the Logan County Commissioners as well for allowing us to have the display in front of the Carnegie Building,” Couchman said.
The Lights of Love Memory Trees display will continue throughout the Christmas season.
