Laura M. Boyd, 35, of East Liberty, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and driving under non-compliance suspension related to a crash Monday.
She was transported by Macochee EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital, and later was transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash that occurred just after noon.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report she was operating a westbound pickup in the 4600 block of C.R. 29 when she went off the right side of the road, and then came back onto the road and off the left side. The pickup went into an agricultural field and struck a utility pole. Deputies said she was not wearing her seat belt.
When deputies arrived on the scene, Boyd was being treated by Macochee EMS members and her injuries included a possible broken back and broken ribs.
While speaking with Boyd, deputies said her speech was slurred and her eyes were glassy. She denied drinking alcohol before the crash, but she said she had taken prescription medication.
Deputies were informed by hospital emergency room personnel that the patient had several prescription drugs on her person, including gabapentin, hydrocodone and alprazolam.
Lab test results are pending from a blood sample obtained by deputies with a search warrant.
She also was cited for failure to control and received a seat belt violation. Further charges are pending regarding unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, as the vehicle owner reports Boyd did not have permission to drive the vehicle.
Damage was heavy to the pickup.
