Jayson T.H. Carey, 21, of McGuffey, was charged Saturday with carrying a concealed weapon and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol observed the motorist driving north in the 300 block of south Main Street faster than the posted 25-mph limit. Another motorist was beside and both continued northbound to Dollar General, 308 N. Main St., where both stopped as the officer initiated a stop.
As Carey was sitting in his car, the officer observed a box of ammunition in the glove box as the motorist retrieved the vehicle registration. When asked about the presence of a firearm, Carey pointed to his waist.
He was ordered out of the car and secured in handcuffs.
A 9 mm handgun with loaded magazine was removed from the front waist line of Carey’s pants by the officer.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Paul F. Dieringer, 41, of 128 W. Williams Ave., was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia after a 2 a.m. traffic stop Sunday.
