Eleanor G. Douglas, 21, of 604 W. Chillicothe Ave., was charged Thursday with having dogs at large after her dogs attacked a neighbor.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were dispatched to the area around 5:30 p.m. and responded to Karen Bullock screaming for help from her 602 W. Chillicothe Ave. residence. She told the first responding officer of the attack and he called for a squad and more assistance.
She pointed next door to two dogs on the front porch and the officer walked toward the sidewalk. As he crossed the walk, one of the dogs charged the officer and attempted to bite the officer’s left shin. The officer deployed his Taser and fired two prongs into the animal, dropping the animal to the ground. The dog recovered quickly and ran off.
The other dog was captured and put in a cruiser.
Bullock was transported by a Bellefontaine squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Officers learned the dogs belonged to Douglas and later met with her. She told them someone kicked in the window to her garage where the dogs are kept but officers noted this was the third time on record she had issued with her dogs running at large.
While reviewing the property and the garage where the dogs stay, officers noted a significant amount of trash and rubbish which Douglas claims was left by a previous resident.
She was informed the rubbish issue would be referred to the city’s code enforcement officer and served a vicious dog notice.
