The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities approved at their Thursday evening meeting the agency’s 2016-2018 Strategic Plan and discussed the related community survey conducted this year.
The survey was sent out in February to individuals receiving services, parents, community leaders, employees and retirees. They were asked about the current actions taken by the board in response to the 2014 survey and previous strategic plan.
Officials said they were overwhelmed by the many positive comments made and the expressed support of the services provided by the LCBDD, Discovery Center and Adult Services. Respondents also noted interest in community employment, sheltered employment and autism services.
Survey participants expressed a need for additional work-related programs, particularly community-based employment and additional opportunities in sheltered employment. Community employment and community integration were mentioned frequently.
Following the survey, a team of 14 community leaders met regularly to develop a planning process to address these needs and to set goals and outcomes outlined in the new strategic plan.
Key agency value statements included in the strategic plan are:
• Everyone deserves a good life — People with disabilities and their families have the right to live, love, work, worship, play and pursue their life aspirations just as others do in the community.
• Empower people to be self-advocates — Individuals with developmental disabilities should become strong self-advocates who are empowered and self-determined, and will have an active say in their services and programs.
• Community first — Each person should be a part of their local community and have access to community resources as does the general population.
