Motorcyclist Kirt Penhorwood, 42, of Bellefontaine, and his passenger, Ashley Penhorwood, 33, of Spencerville, were flown by MedFlight and CareFlight helicopters to area hospitals for treatment of incapacitating injuries sustained in a crash Sunday afternoon.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Mr. Penhorwood was operating a southbound motorcycle on County Road 21 about 4:30 p.m. near Township Road 80 when he struck the rear of a southbound motorcycle operated by Joshua Samples, 30, of Bellefontaine.
The Samples motorcycle slid off the west side of the road, and the Penhorwood motorcycle slid off the east side of the road. Both Kirt and Ashley Penhorwood were thrown from the motorcycle.
Samples was treated at the scene by Indian Lake EMS personnel, and refused to be transported. Mr. Penhorwood was transported to St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima, and Ms. Penhorwood was transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Deputies report neither motorcycle operators nor the passenger were wearing helmets. No citations have yet been issued as investigation continues.
• Four people were transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries related to a three-vehicle crash Sunday evening by Heartland of Indian Lake, 14442 U.S. 33, Lakeview.
Deputies report Donald Faulder, 73, of Jackson Center, was operating a car in the driveway of Heartland of Indian Lake at 8:10 p.m. and attempted to make a turn onto U.S. 33, and pulled into the path of an eastbound semi tractor-trailer operated by Charles R. Shannon, 48, of Greenfield, and a westbound van operated by Sharon L. Myers, 75, of Lima.
The car struck the van and then the side of the semi. The impact sent the van through a ditch and into a tree.
Faulder and Shannon were transported by Indian Lake EMS to the hospital, and Faulder’s passenger, Susan Browning, 71, of Lewistown, and Myers were transported by Huntsville EMS to the hospital.
Faulder was cited for failure to yield. Each of the occupants were wearing their seat belts.
Damage was disabling to the car and van, and light to the semi.
Driver charged with OVI after Huntsville stop
Cody A. Hargett, 24, of Oak Hill, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a traffic stop about 11:45 p.m. Friday.
Deputies on patrol in the Huntsville area observed his vehicle make several moving violations, and initiated the traffic stop in the 8100 block of State Route 117. The driver, Hargett, admitted to drinking several beers that evening, and deputies noted that his movements were “very lethargic.”
Field sobriety tests were administered, and at the Logan County Jail, he submitted to a breath test, with samples of 0.194 and 0.1185. He also was cited for a marked lanes violation.
Resisting arrest charge issued

Joseph D. Giron, 33, of 215 E. Brown St., Bellefontaine, was charged with resisting arrest Saturday afternoon after deputies responded to his address to serve him with two felony warrants.
Deputies were outside the residence for approximately 30 minutes, attempting to make contact with Giron through doors and windows at the home. After that time, they began to force entry to the home, and then Giron reportedly came to the door and complied with deputies.
Two others at the residence, David Shamblin, 45, and Wendy Shamblin, 39, addresses unavailable, each was charged with obstructing justice and lodged in the jail, along with Giron.
Giron was served the warrants, which included a complicity to safecracking charge.
