Traffic stop results in drug trafficking arrests
Driver Arnel Murphy II, 49, of Sidney, and his passenger, Barbara Makin, 52, of Lima, each were charged with felony counts of drug trafficking and possession of drugs as a result of a traffic stop Monday evening.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department observed a suspended driver fail to signal at a stop sign at the intersection of Township Road 239 and State Route 720 about 10:20 p.m.
Officers initiated the traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with Murphy and Makin. The driver agreed to a consent search of the vehicle and officers located a black bag containing two separate bags of suspected methamphetamine. One bag weighed 2.3 grams, and the second bag weighed 1.3 grams.
Officers also located a digital scale, several torch lighters, and multiple empty bags of suspected methamphetamine. Both the driver and passenger were arrested and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
