Local tourism officials, history buffs and other community leaders continue to plan a yearlong celebration around the Logan County Bicentennial.
While Logan County was officially separated from the much larger Champaign County on March 1, 1818, event organizers hope to celebrate the county’s 200th birthday with numerous events over the course of the year.
The kickoff will include a night of music and art presented by local school districts at the Holland Theatre on March 17.
While the original plan was to have the event at the Logan County Courthouse, the restoration project will not be finished in time, Logan County Commissioners have said. If the courthouse project is complete in 2018, a separate event will be planned around its grand opening, organizers said. Kris Swisher of the Holland Theatre is helping plan that event, along with assistance from the school districts and LoCo Arts.
