The Logan County Brain Injury Support Group donated three books to the Logan County Libraries this month in memory of Clarence “Glenn” Gault, a long-time active member/friend of the support group and a decorated Vietnam War veteran.
“Glenn was a wonderful, caring and very supportive man, always wanting to help others in our group. We lost our dear friend Glenn Jan. 28, 2023,” support group facilitator Becky Weber said during a special presentation at the library March 21, also in honor of Brain Injury Awareness Month.
Weber was able to present the books to the library staff and to Glenn’s wife, Diann Gault. Library Executive Director Beverly Arlequeeuw and Carol Burton, library services, were on hand for the presentation.
Diann noted that Glenn joined the United States Army, having served in the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1967. During his tour there, Glenn received a life altering open-head injury when hit by an enemy grenade.
Because of his wounds, he received a Bronze Star for meritorious achievement and a Purple Heart.
The books donated in his memory by the Brain Injury Support Group are:
• “Faces & Recovery” by Eric Newhouse: Treatment that helps PTSD, TBI and Moral Injury.
• “My Dad Got Hurt, What Can I Do?” by the National Academy of Neuropsychology Foundation with Brunella Costagliola, helping military children cope with a brain injured patient.
• “Faces of Combat PTSD & TBI” by Eric Newhouse, one journalist’s crusade to improve treatment of our veterans.
Brain Injury Awareness Month is celebrated each year in March.
“By donating books to the Logan County Libraries on all types of head injuries over the years, this is one important way we are trying to help get information to people who have experienced a brain injury, their caregivers, families and friends,” Weber said.
“‘In instant, your life can change forever,’ is a statement support members know only too well.”
The Logan County Brain Injury Support Group welcomes and supports anyone who has experienced a head injury along with their caregiver/family member.
The group meets from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on the fourth Monday of every month, except December, at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, in the North/South Conference Room across from the cafeteria.
For anyone with questions concerning the support group, call (937) 441-1895.
