Chiefs dominate 2nd half to turn away Pioneers
Bellefontaine dominated Jonathan Alder in the second half to grab a 27-7 victory in a big Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division football game at AcuSport Stadium on Friday.
The Chiefs, who outscored the Pioneers 20-0 over the final two quarters, remain in first place in the Kenton Trail division at 3-0. They move to 7-1 overall.
Alder drops to 5-3, 1-2.
It was the first victory for the Chiefs over the Pioneers since the 2018 season.
“I’m really happy for our kids tonight,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Brown.
“They rallied around each other at halftime and were determined to go out and win this game by being the physical team, and imposing their will at times. We played lights out defense and got big plays on offense when we needed them. This was a really good win over a good football team.”
Pirates roll Vikings, stay atop TRC standings
Riverside’s football team shut out host Miami East 45-0 in a Three Rivers Conference game Friday night.
The Pirates have now won six games in a row to make their record 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the TRC. The Vikings drop to 1-7, 1-4.
Riverside currently has a half-game lead over Milton-Union in the TRC standings. M-Union has played one less league game than the Pirates.
“Give credit to Miami East,” said Riverside head coach Bryce Hodge. “They have some big boys and they made it tough on us early in the game. But I am proud of our guys for sticking with it. Our challenge is to get better every week and keep improving.”
It was the third shutout of the year for the Riverside defense, which limited the Vikings to just 82 yards of offense.
Northeastern pulls away from Tigers
For three quarters, West Liberty-Salem’s football team went toe-to-toe with state-ranked and unbeaten Northeastern on Friday.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, the visiting Jets dominated the final period to pull away for a 33-10 win in a battle for first place in the Ohio Heritage Conference North division.
The Jets improve to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the OHC. The Tigers fall to 5-3, 2-1.
Lakers rout Northwestern for first win
Indian Lake picked up its first win of the season Friday, exploding past host Northwestern 35-7 in a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division football game.
The Lakers are now 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the CBC. Northwestern drops to 1-7, 0-3.
Indian Lake finished with 321 yards of offense, while holding the Warriors to 190 yards.
It was a balanced night for Indian Lake with 157 passing yards and 164 rushing yards.
Raiders can’t keep pace with Hillclimbers
Benjamin Logan’s football team could not keep host Urbana in check on Friday as the host Hillclimbers cruised to a 38-7 win in a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division game.
The Raiders are now 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the CBC. Urbana improves 6-2, 3-0.
Urbana jumped out to a 37-0 lead at halftime.
