For the third game in a row, it came down to the wire for the West Liberty-Salem football team on Friday.
The Tigers, trailing host Greenon by seven points late in the fourth quarter, pulled to within a point on a 6-yard Miles Hostetler to Andre Jones touchdown pass with 11 seconds to go.
Instead of electing to kick the extra point to force overtime, the Tigers decided to go for two.
The decision paid off as Hostetler found Jones for the conversion pass to score the game-winning points.
WL-S is now 2-2 on the season.
The Tigers pulled out a victory in the final seconds against Benjamin Logan in Week 2 before losing in double overtime to Springfield Catholic Central last week.
The Tigers finished with 273 yards of offense, while the Knights had 326.
It was a big night for Hostetler as the junior quarterback was 10-of-16 passing for 141 yards and a touchdown and had 109 rushing yards and another TD on seven carries.
It was mostly a defensive battle in the opening half.
The Knights (1-3) scored the lone touchdown of the first half on a 6-yard run by Zack Stevens at the 10:31 mark of the second quarter. The extra point gave the Knights a 7-0 lead.
The score stayed that way until the fourth quarter when the teams combined for 36 points.
Thirteen seconds into the final period, Hostetler ripped off a 97-yard touchdown run and D.J. Yoder’s extra-point kick knotted the score at 7-7.
The Tigers took a 14-7 lead with 9:41 remaining when Jones returned a punt 81 yards for a TD.
Greenon tied the game at 14-14 on a 14-yard TD run by Zack Stevens with 7:41 left to play.
The Knights went ahead 21-14 at the 3:53 mark of the fourth period on a 33-yard TD run by Wade Davis.
That set the stage for the late Tigers heroics. They marched down into scoring position in the final moments and got the big TD pass and conversion from Hostetler and Jones to snatch the win.
Jones made four catches for 79 yards and Carson Poppe had four grabs for 41 yards for the Tigers.
Gabe McGill sparked the WL-S defense with five solo tackles and seven assists. Taran Logwood intercepted a pass on defense.
The Tigers return to the field Friday at home against Cedarville.
