Motorcyclist charged with OVI
Armenthia R. Adkins, 54, of Bellefontaine, was charged Saturday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. She also was issued traffic citations for speeding, weaving, a marked lanes violation and a stop sign violation.
Just before 2 a.m., an officer on patrol along Central Court heard two motorcyclists revving the motors of their motorcycles nearby. The officer observed a purple motorcycle and a lime green motorcycle head southbound on Detroit Street. Following the motorcyclists, the officer watched as Adkins, on the purple motorcycle, cross over the dotted white line into the left southbound and then swerve back into the right lane.
At Water Avenue, she slowed but did not stop for a stop sign and continued southbound, accelerating quickly and disregarding subsequent stop signs. Between Carter and Lake avenues, she reportedly was weaving heavily within the lane.
Adkins turned eastbound on Lake to southbound Main Street with the officer following. He checked her speed at 47 mph in a 35-mph zone. She then turned eastbound on Gunntown Road and traveled over the double-yellow center line at which point the officer initiated a traffic stop.
Upon talking with Adkins, the officer detected an odor of alcohol. She declined to participate in field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
She also refused to provide a breathalyzer sample. It was noted in the incident report that she had OVI convictions 2004, 2005 and 2010.
The officers also reported she stumbled and fell into a hallway wall at the police department and ran into the doorway exiting the building.
