The Logan County Board of Elections has certified to the Nov. 2 candidates and ballot issues during their Aug. 19 meeting.
In addition, the write-in deadline was 4 p.m. Aug. 23, so this list includes all of those write-in candidates that have filed as well.
Countywide ballot issues include a 1/2 percent sales tax continuation proposed by the Logan County Commissioners. The five-year issue would not raise the Logan County sales tax rate, but would continue with the same 0.5 percent added to the state rate of 6.75 percent, for a total of 7.25 percent sales tax, the commissioners previously said.
The sales tax would be allocated as follows: 25 percent to county roads and bridges, and storm water improvements limited to the right of way; 25 percent for use by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office to provide safety forces services and equipment, infrastructure of permanent improvements to service and protect the safety of all Logan County; 20 percent for township roads and bridges, and stormwater improvements within the right of way; and 10 percent for economic development and land use planning.
A second countywide issue is a 0.7 mill replacement levy for the Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services Board of Logan and Champaign Counties for a period of five years, commencing in 2022, first due in calendar year 2023.
Bellefontaine City Schools has proposed the renewal of an emergency tax levy that currently generates $1,185,000 per year for school district operating expenses. If approved by voters, this issue would renew the current levy in place and would not raise taxes, Superintendent Brad Hall said.
This BCS emergency levy represents a five-year issue that was first approved by voters in November 2016.
The Village of West Liberty has proposed a renewal tax for the purpose of current expenses at a rate not exceeding 5 mills for the period of five years, commencing in 2022, first due in calendar year 2023.
An additional tax has been proposed by Perry Township for the purpose of cemetery at a rate not exceeding 1 mill for a period of five years, commencing in 2021, first due in calendar year 2022.
The Indian Lake Joint Ambulance District has proposed a renewal of part of an existing levy, being a reduction of 0.5 mills for the purpose of emergency medical services at a rate not exceeding 2.5 mills for five years, commencing in 2022, first due in calendar year 2023.
Local offices include that of mayor, attorney, auditor, treasurer, council president, council, board of public affairs, trustee, fiscal officer, Educational Service Center board member and board of education member.
The following is a look at the contested races in Logan County, which includes:
President of Bellefontaine City Council, two-year term — Victor Geib and incumbent Zeb Wagner, with one candidate to be elected.
Council at large/City of Bellefontaine, two-year term — Incumbents Deborah E. Baker, Jenna L. James and Kyle Springs; along with Kimberly Araki, Mark Cooper, and C. Ray Swisher, with three candidates to be elected.
First Ward City Council Member, two-year term — Richard Kurtz (incumbent) and Katelyn Roby, with one to be elected.
Second Ward City Council Member, two-year term — W. Carol Adkins and Jordan Reser (incumbent), with one to be elected.
Third Ward City Council Member, two-year term — Write-in candidates Dan Branson and Peter DeSomma (incumbent), with one to be elected.
Fourth Ward City Council Member, two-year term — Mick Lile (incumbent) and Preston Rogan, with one to be elected.
Liberty Township Trustee, four-year term — Incumbents C.J. Hostetler and Darrin Turner; along with Wayne Yoder, with two candidates to be elected.
McArthur Township Trustee, four-year term — Incumbents D. John Cummins and G. Russel Hurley; along with John Andrew Forsythe and, with two to be elected.
Miami Township Trustee, four-year term — Incumbents Ron Furrow and G. Ed Stevenson; along with David Cavinder and Ronald E. Pope, with two to be elected.
Perry Township Trustee, four-year term — Mitchell Current, John D. Gibson, Neill E. Rhodes, Kenneth A. Rosebrook Sr., John R. Stanford, with two to be elected.
Richland Township Trustee, four-year term — Incumbent Gary A. Carson, and Greg Fitzpatrick and Matthew W. Hurley, with two to be elected.
Rushcreek Township Trustee, four-year term — Incumbent Robert Schrader, and Chad Shafer and Don Stevens, with two to be elected.
Stokes Township Trustee, four-year term — Incumbents Timothy Hart and Steven Terrill; along with Kent E. Zimmerly, with two to be elected.
Washington Township Trustee, four-year term — Incumbents Benjamin Tucker Berg and Jason M. Faulder; along with Kevin Barth, Rick L. Beck, , with two to be elected.
West Liberty Village Council Member, four-year term — Incumbent Jayne Griffith; and Jim Hoffman, Hope L. Justice, Samuel Park, Kenneth Ruetsch, Trent Spriggs, A. Jeanette Zerkle.
Rushsylvania Village Council Member, four-year term — Incumbents Darrel Bradford, Jason Miller, Tim Rader, Patricia K. Wilson; along with Sarah S. Eagy, with four to be elected.
Lakeview Village Council, four-year term — Incumbents Eric N. Barthorst, Terry Brentlinger and Sandra L. Knott; along with Patrick J. Parish and Amby Jo Wallace, with four to be elected.
For local boards of education, four candidates were certified for three positions on the Benjamin Logan Board of Education (four-year term). They are: incumbents Karen J. Dill, Debra Johnson and Chris Larsen; and Mark Himmeger.
No candidates were certified for a two-year unexpired term on the Benjamin Logan Board of Education.
Six candidates were certified for three open seats on the West Liberty Salem Board of Education (four-year terms). They are: Alycia M. Brehm, Mindie Fish, Tim Lamb, Amy Pratt, Trey Richardson and Doug Williams.
Bryn Daring-Stewart was the lone candidate certified for two positions on the Bellefontaine Board of Education (four-year terms), and Shannon Reese was the lone candidate to be certified for two open seats on the Indian Lake Board of Education (four-year terms).
Three incumbent candidates filed for the three positions on the Riverside Board of Education — Janet Siders, Joel Snow and Mark Zumberger (four-year terms).
