Dustin Franks has established himself as one of the top track and field athletes in Indian Lake history.
Franks is set to compete in four events at the Division II state track and field meet this weekend. When he is done with the state meet, his next focus will be on continuing his career at Wittenberg University.
Franks recently announced his decision to compete for the Tigers.
“I really like the look of the campus, the size and the buildings are really beautiful,” said Franks of his decision to attend Wittenberg, an NCAA Division III school in Springfield.
“They have a new graphic design department and they’ve got a beautiful indoor track facility.”
Franks is a multi-sport athlete at Indian Lake, playing football, swimming and shining at track and field. His resume includes being a two-time indoor state Medalist in triple jump, CBC track athlete of the year, CBC first team long jump, CBC second team high jump, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Indian Lake’s most valuable field event performer and Athletic Booster award winner.
Franks holds the Indian Lake school record for triple jump. He is the USA Track & Field district champion for high jump and long lump, a USA T&F regional qualifier in high jump, long jump,110 hurdles and triple jump and a national qualifier in high jump and long jump. He also is the AAU district champion and regional qualifier in high jump and long jump.
Franks is coming off a tremendous showing in last weekend’s Division II regional meet.
He finished in the top four in the high jump, long jump 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles to advance in all four events.
Franks will compete in the state meet Friday and Saturday at Pickerington North High School.
