Two defendants were sentenced Thursday in Logan County Common Pleas Court to in-patient treatment by Judge Kevin P. Braig for sex and drug offenses.
Anthony A. Nichols, 19, of Mechanicsburg, was sentenced to complete sex offender treatment at the River City Community Based Correctional Facility in Cincinnati, as well as to five years’ intensive community control.
In handing down the sentence, Judge Braig noted the court reserves a 10-plus-year prison sentence as a potential sanction should Nichols violate terms and conditions of his community control.
Nichols had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of importuning, felonies of the third- and fifth-degree, respectively; gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony; and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fouth-degree felony.
The defendant must also register as a Tier II sexual offender, requiring him to report his address with law enforcement for 25 years.
Nichols was indicted in November for the offenses committed against a victim under the age of 13. Judge Braig noted that Thursday’s sentence was jointly-recommended by Logan County Prosecutors and defense counsel. In determining to accept the joint-sentencing recommendation, the court considered the seriousness of Nichols’ actions as well the fact Nichols had no previous criminal record, the judge concluded.
• Miles Lewis, 32, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced Thursday to undergo substance abuse treatment at the West Central Community Based Correctional Facility in Marysville, and to five years of community control for charges of possession of cocaine and aggravated possession of drugs, fifth-degree felonies.
Failure to complete substance abuse treatment, or a violation of his community control would subject Lewis to a two-year prison term, Judge Braig reported.
