Jeffrey R. O’Hara, 45, of 8724 County Road 2, Zanesfield, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, tampering with evidence and resisting arrest during an incident Wednesday morning.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to his address about 8:30 a.m. to make contact with him to deliver a message from Benjamin Logan Schools.
While en route, dispatchers also informed deputies that there was an active warrant for his arrest through Union County.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with O’Hara and informed him of the warrant. Deputies performed a pat down search of the defendant and said he put his hand in his pocket and removed a pill bottle. He refused to give the bottle to deputies and stated he wanted to leave it at the house.
Deputies pointed a Taser at O’Hara, who then complied with their commands and was placed under arrest.
The defendant continued to resist deputies’ efforts to get him to the cruiser and was asked to get down on his knees in a grassy area. A deputy said O’Hara tried to trip him, and deputies pulled out a Taser again, but did not deploy it, to gain compliance from O’Hara.
He also was served with the Union County warrant and was transported to the Logan County Jail.
Following the arrest, deputies received consent from O’Hara’s grandmother to re-enter the home and were able to retrieve the pill bottle that the defendant previously had on his person. Deputies said a field test of the substance in the bottle yielded a possible positive indicator of methamphetamine.
