Benjamin Logan showed how dangerous it can be when it is firing on all cylinders Friday night.
The host Raiders used a balanced attack to dissect Urbana’s defense for a 73-54 victory in a Central Buckeye Conference boys basketball game.
“Our ball movement was really good tonight,” said Ben Logan head coach Cam Saylor.
“We got a lot of easy points and that was a result of outstanding ball movement. Our guards did a great job of finding the open guys inside and our post guys did a great job of finishing.”
The victory stopped a four-game losing skid for the Raiders, who improve to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in league play.
“The guys played really hard and executed really well for 32 minutes,” said Saylor. “This win is huge for us. Every conference game is big. We had a tough loss against them earlier this season, and we emphasized to our guys that we needed to play harder and with more intensity this time.”
Urbana, which beat Ben Logan 74-69 in overtime in the first meeting, falls to 4-3, 1-3.
It was a back-and-forth first half as the Raiders fell behind by double digits in the early moments before putting together a big run to lead 24-15 midway through the second quarter.
Urbana battled back to get within a point before a Kaden Arn bucket late in the half gave the Raiders a three-point cushion (28-25) at halftime.
The Raiders regrouped at the break and mounted a 13-2 run to begin the third quarter. That gave the hosts a 41-27 lead.
Urbana got to within eight, but Ben Logan used another spurt to push its lead to 15 (54-39) at the end of the third quarter.
The Raiders stayed in command in the final stanza to wrap up their impressive performance.
It was a group effort for Ben Logan’s offense with three players in double figures and two more with eight points.
Arn scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Raiders. Davontae Fahle scored 16, Tucker Munz had 13 and Brady Burrey and Landen Hunt contributed eight apiece.
“It’s huge when we have multiple guys scoring like that,” said Saylor. “It makes it easier on everybody and it makes it more difficult for teams to defend us.”
Wyatt Teets led Urbana with 18 points.
There was no junior varsity game Friday.
Ben Logan’s scheduled game against Springfield Shawnee for tonight has been postponed because of COVID issues with Shawnee. The Raiders are back in action at Indian Lake on Friday.
