A Bellefontaine man previously charged with sex crimes involving minors now faces a total of 56 charges after a Logan County grand jury handed up indictments this week.
Dustin K. Hughes, 30, is currently lodged in the Logan County Jail and charged with:
• three counts of rape, felonies of the first degree;
• attempt to commit an offense, a felony of the first degree;
• four counts gross sexual imposition, felonies of the third degree;
• felonious assault, a felony of the second degree;
• two counts of pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor or impaired person, felonies of the second degree;
• unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a felony of the third degree;
• importuning, a felony of the fifth degree;
• illegal use of minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance, a felony of the second degree;
• 15 counts of pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor or impaired person, felonies of the fourth degree;
• 25 counts of illegal use of minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance, felonies of the fifth degree;
• misdemeanor sexual imposition; and
• misdemeanor domestic violence.
Detectives with the Bellefontaine Police Department began investigating Hughes last year and two prior grand juries issued indictments. In the meantime, more allegations have come out, authorities say.
Most of the recent charges stem from forensic analysis of the defendant’s computer hardware and cell phone. It took time to complete the hardware analysis, detectives report, and the Logan County Common Pleas Court’s response to COVID-19 delayed presenting the findings to a grand jury in April.
The analysis uncovered videos of the defendant allegedly engaging sexual conduct with minors that were posted to his personal pornographic Website.
The criminal complaint describes the victims as prepubescent children.
If convicted of the rape charges, Hughes could face a sentence of life in prison.
He has been incarcerated since September.
Financial manager allegedly stole $724,000
Jill N. Miller, 38, of Harrod, was charged by indictment with two counts of aggravated theft, felonies of the third degree; identity fraud, a felony of the second degree; and forgery, a felony of the third degree.
She allegedly stole more than $724,000 over a 10-year period while employed as the financial manager for Maple Leaf Family and Sports Medicine LLC, 2211 Timber Trail.
Bellefontaine detectives learned of the thefts in December and worked with a forensic accountant to review the business’ financial records and Miller’s financial accounts.
The analysis was able to track back 10 years’ of alleged theft.
Investigators found Miller was solely entrusted with handling all of the office’s finances.
Man charged in December domestic
Justin C. Seaman, 38, of Troy, was named in an indictment charging him with domestic violence, a felony of the fourth degree; two counts of felonious assault, felonies of the second degree; attempted rape, a felony of the second degree; and attempted murder, a felony of the first degree; menacing by stalking, a felony of the fourth degree; and disrupting public services, a felony of the fourth degree.
On Nov. 30, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, along with Russells Point Police Department and Ohio Department of Natural Resources officers, each responded to 11545 Ash St., Lakeview, about 10:25 p.m. on a report of a domestic dispute.
His wife said Seaman was intoxicated; that he had tore up the residence and that he had retrieved firearms.
Officers and deputies reportedly ordered Seaman out of the home at gunpoint and he was taken into custody without incident.
Inside the home, deputies recovered a pump-action shotgun and rifle. They observed that the kitchen bar stool was broken into pieces and that in a bedroom, many items had been disturbed.
His wife told deputies that during an argument, her husband had held her down in the living room couch. She said he never pointed the firearms at her and that she was not injured.
Seaman told deputies that he had been cleaning the firearms.
