Todd A. Nicol, 47, of 9859 Foundry St., East Liberty, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of a traffic stop Monday afternoon following a reckless driving complaint.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of U.S. Route 33 and State Route 347 about 3:25 p.m. on a report of a caller stating the suspect’s vehicle was “all over the roadway” and was tailgating her vehicle.
The caller said the vehicle turned off on S.R. 347. Deputies located the vehicle in the area of County Road 154 and initiated the stop.
While speaking with the driver, Nicol, deputies observed that he displayed signs of intoxication and noticed several open beer containers in the vehicle. When asked how much alcohol he had consumed, the defendant reportedly said, “Not very much.”
He submitted to field sobriety tests and was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.174 blood alcohol content.
Nicol also was cited for marked lanes, open container in a motor vehicle and received a seat belt violation. He was released to a family member.
• Michael A. Stadler, 24, of Milford Center, was cited for speed and failure to control as a result of a crash on County Road 142 the evening of Jan. 12, where he was flown by MedFlight helicopter to OSU Wexner Medical Center.
Deputies had executed a search warrant for Stadler’s medical records from the hospital, as speed and alcohol impairment were previously suspected as factors in the crash.
He has since been treated and released from the Columbus hospital.
Results of the drug testing were positive for marijuana and fentanyl, but indicated no alcohol was detected.
The matter has been forwarded to the Bellefontaine City Prosecutor’s Office.
No citations for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs have yet been issued due to lack of evidence in the medical records, deputies said.
Also during deputies’ investigation, the crash data retrieval report from Stadler’s vehicle advised a top speed of 76 miles per hour during the crash.
