A Lakeview man was issued a summons for theft following an incident Tuesday at the DollarGeneral, 147 E. Main St., Russells Point.
Shane Hartley, 52, of Lakeview, was charged following an investigation by officers of the Russells Point Police Department.
On Tuesday evening around 10 p.m. officers were dispatched to the store on a report of a theft.
Officers were informed a male and female were shopping inside the store, then the male exited the store, activating the antitheft alarms. Employees asked the male to return to the store, but he proceeded to his vehicle before returning to the store. The male did not activate the anti-theft alarms when he returned to the store, indicating he no longer had the merchandise which initially activated the alarms on his person. He admitted he was wearing a sweatshirt belonging to the store and offered to pay for it. He attempted to pay with a credit card, but the card was declined at the terminal. The male and female left the area prior to officers’ arrival.
On Thursday, Washington Township Police responded to a report of the female who was with the male that night inside the store again. Officers responded and spoke with the female, who identified the male who was with her as Hartley.
Hartley later admitted to officers that he walked out of the store wearing the sweatshirt, but claimed he went to his vehicle to retrieve his wallet.
