It is not sufficient to limit to just one day a year appreciation for the service and sacrifices made by veterans of the armed services, Bellefontaine Mayor Ben Stahler said Monday in a Veterans Day address at the Holland Theatre.
Daily, Americans take advantage of the freedom and security secured by the blood and sweat of veterans from all branches of the U.S. military and so it is appropriate to be ever mindful and grateful for veterans, the mayor said.
A ceremony began at 11:11 a.m. Monday on the lawn of the Logan County Courthouse that began with a 21-gun salute and playing of Taps. The crowd then moved over the Holland Theatre for the mayor’s address, as well as a few words from Tim Shaw, Commander for the American Legion Harold Kerr Post 173.
“We’re grateful for the community support and all the support we get from our local businesses,” Shaw said.
Stahler recalled the long line of military veterans from Logan County, and stressed the importance of always remembering their service and sacrifice.
