A local yoga instructor took her creative self undersea to capture a whimsical mermaid for her entry in the Logan County Art League’s “Not So Bad Art by Good People” event.
“What inspired me to paint a mermaid that makes you smile and wonder, is my love for the ocean and sun. The mystery of the sea!” Teresa Marker, yoga instructor at the Hilliker YMCA, said. “I feel you should surround yourself with art that makes you and your ‘space’ feel good and brings pleasure to your surroundings. Art that makes you smile, hence, The Mermaid.”
Unlike some of the other 14 “celebrities” chosen, Ms. Marker said she has had some recent art training to draw upon.
“I chose watercolors because I took a watercolor class at The Springfield Art Museum in 2006; it planted a seed to create but my energies turned to yoga training and teaching and I haven’t painted much since.”
