A vehicle operated by Miranda Wessa, 24, of Woodstock was traveling the wrong way on U.S. 33 just west of the Delaware Avenue exit and struck head-on a vehicle operated by Sarah Snapp, 27, of West Liberty.
The Snapp vehicle was flipped and came to rest in the median. A dog in the Wessa vehicle did not survive, officers said.
Ms. Snapp was transported to Memorial Hospital in Marysville and then was transferred to the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. Ms. Wessa was flown by medical transport to Grant Medical Center.
Both sides of U.S. 33 were closed for about three hours and the crash remains under investigation.
