Danielle N. Smith, 27, of 224 W. High Ave., Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a traffic incident early Saturday morning.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 2:15 a.m. to the area of U.S. Route 33 and County Road 37 related to several callers reporting an eastbound vehicle traveling in the westbound lanes and nearly causing head-on collisions.
Deputies began checking the area and did not immediately locate the vehicle, but observed damage in the construction zone of U.S. 33 and the County Road 10 overpass.
Then about a mile east of the State Route 292 overpass, deputies observed a 2019 Honda Accord parked along the side of the road in the eastbound lanes with its hazard lights activated. The vehicle had sustained heavy damage to the front passenger side, and deputies also located portions of the vehicle’s undercarriage in the construction zone near C.R. 10.
While speaking with the driver, Smith, deputies said she displayed signs of intoxication and told them she was uncertain what she had struck with her vehicle. Deputies observed an open can of beer in her driver’s side door cup holder.
She refused to submit to field sobriety tests and was transported to the Logan County Jail, where she submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.225 blood alcohol content. Smith also was cited for open container in a motor vehicle, hit-skip and driving in the opposite lane of travel.
Man lodged after bar incident
Shawn S. Irick, 43, of Columbus, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest related to an incident Saturday evening at Froggy’s at the Lake, 11065 Township Road 293, Lakeview.
Deputies working a security detail at the establishment received a report about 5:30 p.m. to assist with an intoxicated woman who was experiencing medical difficulties as well at the swim-up area of the pool.
As the woman was being assisted by deputies, Irick reportedly approached a deputy from behind and placed his hands on the deputy’s shoulder, shoving him forward.
Deputies said the defendant then began to talk aggressively toward another deputy at the scene, causing an issue during a potential medical emergency.
Deputies then told Irick he was being kicked out of the bar and began to physically escort him off the premises. However, the defendant reportedly attempted to break away from deputies, and then was taken to the ground and placed under arrest. He was transported to the jail.
