Riverside standout senior Jenna Woods reached 1,000 career kills Wednesday at the Pirates rolled past Houston in a Division IV sectional tournament opener at Troy High School.
The Pirates won by scores of 27-25, 25-15, 25-21 to improve to 18-5 on the season.
Riverside advances to play at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the sectional semifinal against either Fairlawn or Lehman Catholic.
Woods finished the night with 11 kills and also had one block, eight points on 11 -12 serving and 11 digs.
Sasha Stotler recorded 16 kills, nine digs and three blocks, Alaina Snow had three blocks, 11 digs and 31 assists and Jade Copas had seven kills, was 12-12 serving with eight points and had 19 digs.
Also for the Pirates, Alaina Heath posted two blocks, three digs and two assists, Trinity Notestine was 17-17 serving, Grace Brownlee had two aces and six digs and Rachel Knight added four digs.
Tigers blitz Northridge
West Liberty-Salem had no issues in its Division III volleyball tournament opener Wednesday as the Tigers dispatched Northridge 25-7, 25-7, 25-8 at Brookville High School.
The Tigers are now 20-3 on the season and they advance to play Greenon at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the sectional semifinal.
Michele Smith turned in a strong all-around effort to spark the Tigers. Smith had six kills, three digs, seven aces on 22-22 serving and one block.
Gabby Williams tallied 24 assists, five digs, seven aces and was 20-21 serving, Aleah Reed had five kills and one block, Leah Ropp tallied five kills, three digs and two aces on 11-12 serving, Bailey Poppe registered eight kills, three digs, two aces and three assists, Chaley Wade had four kills and one dig, Olivia Wilcox was 3-3 on serves received, Naomi McGill was 6-6 serving and Ally Gaver tallied 13 digs and was 8-9 serving with one ace.
