Open house set for Thursday
Area women with a passion for making a difference in the community and looking for ways to utilize their talents to enrich and inspire others are invited this week to an open house for a new organization in the county that will be part of a global network through the United Way.
The new group, Women United, hosts the introductory evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Winner Harvest Barn, 7317 State Route 47, DeGraff.
Light refreshments will be provided, and a selection of wines will be available to sample for a donation.
The advisory board members and volunteers will be on hand to explain the mission, vision and goals for Women United during the year ahead, as well as volunteer and social opportunities.
With the formation of the local group, its members will be part of the United Way’s Women United network with an international reach of more than 70,000 women leaders across 165 communities and six countries who are focused on building stronger communities
“We fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community,” according to the www.unitedway.org/women-united.
In Logan County, the local members plan to implement Women United programs, awareness events, networking socials and philanthropic activities. Through gathering together on a regular basis and sharing ideas, members aim to make lasting contributions in the county and to collaborate to identify local solutions to complex community needs.
“We are looking for leaders to help us address issues such as mental health and workforce development through the establishment of mentoring activities for girls, young mothers and professionals,” members said in a release.
In addition to the opportunity to connect with the group at the Thursday open house, area women also can provide their contact information in the Women United section of the United Way’s website, www.uwlogan.org, to receive updates about upcoming events and activities.
