Faith Ann Campbell, 51, was taken into custody on the failure to comply with the order of a police officer charge after being released from Mary Rutan Hospital on Friday.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol Friday shortly after midnight saw a car westbound on east Lake Avenue come to a tire-squealing stop in the middle of the intersection of Lake and Main Street before making a wide right turn into the southbound lanes and then traveling north.
The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 700 block of south Main and the motorist stopped briefly before fleeing.
She led the officer north to Washington Avenue where she turned east and then north onto Madriver Street. She allegedly ran stop signs at Colton, Spring, Patterson and Auburn avenues at speeds nearing 60 mph, officers report.
Ms. Campbell continued northbound by Mary Rutan Hospital at a speed of nearly 70 mph before heading west out of town on Rush Avenue and State Route 47. The officer continued to pursue along the state route as she accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 mph near the Benjamin Logan Schools campus.
She turned south on State Route 292 and the vehicle’s speed fluctuated from 30 mph to 90 mph until she reached County Road 8 where she continued straight instead of negotiating the curve to continue on S.R. 292.
The driver then failed to stop or turn where C.R. 8 comes to a T intersection with State Route 540. The vehicle launched into the air and struck a tree and rock along the edge of a field, officers report.
A Perry Township squad responded to the scene, along with deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Ms. Campbell was taken to the hospital where a sample of blood was taken to determine her level of intoxication but was released and booked into the Logan County Jail by 4:25 a.m. Friday.
Officers planned to file an operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs charge along with traffic citations for reckless operation, failure to control and stop sign, marked lanes and stop light violations.
