Man stops package to avoid scam
A Bellefontaine man reported Friday he was nearly scammed out of $9,000 after a caller claiming to be from the IRS told him a package he sent to Texas was intercepted because it contained heroin and fentanyl.
The victim sent the money but was able to stop the shipment after a friend told him it was scam.
The IRS does not randomly contact people by telephone nor does it handle drug investigations.
