Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report a DeGraff woman was killed in a crash involving an Amish horse and buggy and a pickup Monday afternoon, which also sent an adult and three children to area hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.
Buggy occupant Elizibeth Wagler, 34, was pronounced dead following the 3:35 p.m. crash on State Route 47 near Township Road 208. She was transported by Riverside EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital.
One of the three children in the buggy, Daniel Wagler, age unavailable, was flown from the scene by CareFlight and transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital.
The operator of the buggy, Rudy Wagler, 34, of DeGraff, and the two other children, Rudy Jr., 1, and Verna Wagler, 6, were transported by Robinaugh, Bellefontaine and Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The operator of the pickup, Aron L. Tipps, 47, of Covington, was checked at the scene by Bellefontaine EMS, but was not transported.
Deputies report Tipps was operating a westbound Ford F-150 and failed to maintain assured clear distance ahead, striking the rear of the westbound buggy. The buggy then overturned, end over end, and the occupants were thrown from the buggy.
Damage was moderate to the pickup and heavy to the buggy. Tipps was wearing his seat belt. Deputies continue to investigate and said no citations have been issued thus far
This is the fourth fatal crash in Logan County this year.
