Rachel L. Sampson, 28, of 234 E. Harrison St., Lot E7, Lakeview, was charged with misdemeanor theft following an incident Thursday morning.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a theft report about 10 a.m. from her neighbor, Billy Phillips, 68, of 270 E. Harrison St., Lakeview.
Mr. Phillips said Ms. Sampson called him that morning asking for cigarettes. She reportedly came over to his residence and he noted that she was intoxicated. He asked her to lie down and said he would make her some breakfast.
After he finished cooking, he observed that $40 was missing from his wallet, which was located nearby Ms. Sampson. He had used his wallet earlier that morning.
Deputies went to the defendant’s residence. She denied taking money from Mr. Phillips’ wallet. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail.
Driver transported after winter weather crash
Kandise Reed, 33, of Urbana, was transported by Macochee squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries sustained in a crash about 8:15 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies report she was operating a southbound pickup on U.S. Route 68 just south of Township Road 190 when she slid on the icy road and traveled left of center into the northbound lane. Her vehicle then went off the road into a ditch and struck a tree.
Damage was disabling to her pickup. The driver was wearing her seat belt, and no citations were issued.
