Britanie A. Watkins, 34, of 5982 County Road 120, West Mansfield, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a non-injury crash Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 8:15 p.m. to the area of C.R. 120 and County Road 48 in reference to the crash.
Upon arrival, deputies observed a beer can on the ground near the vehicle, and also noticed an open beer can in the center console of the vehicle.
While speaking with Watkins, deputies observed that she displayed signs of intoxication. She admitted to deputies that she had consumed several beers at her mother’s house before leaving to drive home.
Watkins also told deputies that she had not opened the beer can until her vehicle broke down on the side of the road. Deputies also found an empty 1-ounce shot of liquor in the driver’s side door.
She did not submit to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail. The defendant also refused to submit to a breath test. She was issued a citation for open container in a motor vehicle.
No injuries reported in semi, minivan crash
Rebecca Lentz, 37, of Bellefontaine, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead relating to a crash Tuesday, Nov. 15, involving her minivan and a semi tractor-trailer.
Deputies report she was operating a westbound 2013 Honda Odyssey on State Route 47 at Township Road 211 about 2:10 p.m. The minivan struck the rear of a semi operated by Joe L. Petty, 52, of Indianapolis, that was stopped at a mobile traffic stop in a construction zone.
Damage was heavy to minivan and light to the semi. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
• Semi tractor-trailer operator Melvin D. Shoup, 69, of New Carlisle, was cited for improper backing relating to a crash about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputies report he was operating an eastbound semi on County Road 43 and had missed his turn onto Township Road 46. He back backing the semi and struck an eastbound 2014 Ford Focus operated by Audrey F. Owen, 26, of Quincy.
Damage was moderate to the car and light to the semi. The drivers were wearing their seat belts.
• Phillip L. Bonner, 25, of Dayton, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead relating to a non-injury crash Thursday, Nov. 17, in Quincy.
Deputies report he was operating a southbound 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix On Carlisle Street about 12:40 a.m. and struck the rear of a southbound 2008 Honda Ridgeline operated by Brian E. Suttles, 52, of Quincy, that had slowed to turn onto north Miami Street.
Damage was heavy to the Bonner vehicle and light to the Suttles vehicle. The drivers were wearing their seat belts.
