West Liberty-Salem’s volleyball team earned a three-set win over Dayton Christian on Saturday in a Division II sectional semifinal at Brookville High School.
The Tigers won the first two sets 25-17, 25-19 and then had to rally from 10 points down to win the third set 25-22.
WL-Salem, seeded third, improves to 19-5 and advances to play top-seeded Miami East (16-8) in the sectional final at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Brookville.
The 10th-seeded Warriors end their season with a 15-9 record.
Michele Smith sparked the Tigers on Saturday with 15 kills, 12 digs, was 5-6 serving and 4-5 on serves received, Selena Weaver had eight kills, two blocks and two digs and Gabby Williams tallied four kills, 31 assists, nine digs and was 13-13 serving.
Also for the Tigers, Chiarra Prodda had five kills, one ace, 11 digs, was 9-9 serving and 15-15 on serves received, Ally Gaver had one ace, eight digs, was 11-11 serving and 14-16 serve receive, Jaelen Meeker had four aces, nine digs, was 14-14 serving and 7-8 on serves received and Kaleigh Wilcox had one ace, 12 digs, was 16-16 serving and 6-8 on serves received.
Benjamin Logan’s volleyball team saw its tournament run come to an end Saturday as Greenville pulled out a five-set win in a Division II sectional semifinal at Tecumseh High School.
The sixth-seeded Greenwave surprised the second-seeded Raiders 25-18, 13-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-13 to reach the sectional final.
The Raiders finish the season with a record of 17-7.
Kylie Frazier led Ben Logan with 17 kills, three aces and 15 assists, Bailey Shope had six kills, 10 digs and five blocks, Ryelle Gibson had five kills and four blocks, Lynzee Cronkleton had six kills and 19 assists, Molly Vance tallied eight kills and Corinne Herring led the defense with 20 digs.
Greenville faces fourth-seeded Graham at Tecumseh on Saturday.
Riverside bows out of tourney
Riverside’s volleyball team exited the postseason after falling to Franklin-Monroe on Saturday during a Division IV sectional semifinal at Covington High School. The Jets defeated the Pirates in a four-set battle 25-20, 25-12, 23-25, 25-23.
The 11th-seeded Pirates end their season with a 14-8 record. The fifth-seeded Jets (19-5) take on fourth-seeded Jackson Center on Tuesday in a sectional final at Covington.
Jenna Woods led Riverside’s efforts with 12 kills, Lauryn Sanford had 10 kills and seven solo blocks and Allison Knight recorded 17 digs.
