Building plans taking shape for new police department
West Liberty Village Council members appointed two new members, Richard Mally and Jane Core-Thomas, at their recent meeting who will replace two outgoing members.
Mr. Mally will replace Becky Hamilton for a four-year term, and Mrs. Core-Thomas replaces Larry Lance for a two-year term.
During the Feb. 22 council meeting, Ms. Hamilton and Mr. Lance submitted their resignations, each citing issues with their health reimbursement accounts through the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.
West Liberty Police Chief Shane Oelker reported that April 1, the police department will begin moving into their temporary headquarters in the village community room.
The cost of the new police department building is estimated at $320,000, not including the technology and hook-ups for phone, computers, cameras etc. The building size is estimated at 62 feet by 30 feet with a 40 foot by 26 foot garage.
