URBANA — A West Liberty man who is accused of causing a drunk driving crash that killed a Mechanicsburg teen pleaded not guilty this week.
Matthew King, 21, was arraigned Thursday on two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of aggravated vehicular assault, two counts of vehicular assault and one count of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, WHIO-TV reports.
He is accused of driving the car on June 14 prior to the wreck that claimed the life of Mackenzee Hartley, 18.
His bond was set at $20,000 during the Thursday hearing. He remained incarcerated at the Tri-County Jail today.
If he posts bond, he will have no driving privileges, must wear an ankle bracelet and cannot consume alcohol, according to officials.
During the crash, the vehicle was westbound on State Route 296 near the Upper Valley Pike in Salem Township when it went off the road and struck an embankment. Mr. King, Ms. Hartley and Mayci Powell of Mechanicsburg, who was 17 at the time of the crash, were ejected.
Ms. Hartley died as a result of her injuries.
The defendant’s next appearance in court is set for April 19.
