Indian Lake’s boys basketball team saw visiting Wapakoneta slip away in the final period Saturday as the Lakers fell 72-62 in their season opener.
It was a close start to the game as Indian Lake took an 18-17 lead to end the first quarter. Wapakoneta used an 18-11 run in the second quarter to build a 35-29 halftime lead.
The Lakers stayed in the game with a 17-15 effort in the third quarter, but still trailed 50-46. The Redskins locked up the win with a 22-16 run in the fourth quarter.
Austin Parker fueled the Laker offense with 23 points, Luke Jackson had 16 points, Nate Reichert scored eight points and Zander Barnes added seven points.
In junior varsity action, Indian Lake dropped Wapakoneta 54-37. Logan Evans led the Lakers with 22 points and Caleb Wurster had 17 points.
Indian Lake hosts Benjamin Logan on Friday. The Lakers’ game that was scheduled for Tuesday against West-Liberty Salem has been postponed until later in the season.
