Nicholas J. Beair, 33, of 4192 W. State Route 274, Huntsville, was charged with obstructing official business and was served felony warrants for domestic violence and possession of drugs after deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a trespassing complaint Thursday evening.
Deputies responded about 10:20 p.m. to the area of 11760 Williams Drive on a complaint received from a female resident, who said Beair was refusing to leave the home. Deputies also noted he had the active felony warrants for his arrest.
The female caller went to a neighbor’s residence for her safety, and provided deputies with permission to search inside her residence with K9 Thor.
The defendant was not located inside the home, but K9 Thor began pulling deputies toward a neighboring residence to the east. The canine was able to locate Beair hiding nearby in tall weeds.
Deputies said K9 Thor engaged the defendant by biting him in the right ankle. Beair showed deputies his hands and the dog was called off of him.
Indian Lake EMS evaluated Beair at the scene. The defendant told deputies he had swallowed fentanyl before being bitten by the dog. He was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he was evaluated and also given an antibiotic for the K9 bite.
He later told medical staff that he actually hadn’t swallowed fentanyl, but had injected it that evening. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
