It seems like once Thanksgiving hits, everything speeds up and goes a little crazy from there, certainly reaching its peak with Christmas, but still barely slowing until after New Year’s Day. And then, just like that, we’re in January.
The Balsam firs are put on the curb and the twinkly lights go back in their tubs, and suddenly all we have is cold and snow and an unknown number of weeks, maybe months, until we begin getting those tiny glimpses of spring.
This waiting can seem a bit monotonous. We need something to break it up and add a bit of warmth to our days. Some heat. A little energy.
With that in mind, the Logan County Visitors Bureau (LCVB) has a suggestion: Hit the coffee trail. Go on a little java jaunt, as it were.
Much like the ice cream trail over the summer, the LCVB coffee trail sends partakers to participating businesses around the county. The event kicked off mid-December and has an undetermined ending date.
Though this technically means you have as long as you need to complete the trail, they do offer one incentive to get to it: the first 100 completed passports will be rewarded.
“This is a trial run to see how it goes,” Anna Louden, visitors bureau director, said. “If it’s a success, we’ll do it again next year … and maybe have bigger prizes.”
If the results of the ice cream trail last summer are any indication, they’ll definitely do it again.
To take part, simply pick up a passport from the Visitors Bureau, 100 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, or any of the seven coffee shops taking part, and start enjoying all of the beverages and tasty treats these local businesses have to offer. And no, you don’t have to buy coffee, which is good for those of us who aren’t fond of the bitter brew. Fortunately, each of these shops has many great options to choose from.
Once the passport is complete, bring it by the Bureau office, where the first 100 will receive a gift card from one of the contributing establishments. Those are: Sweet Aromas, Richwood Coffee, City Sweets & Creamery and Native Coffee Co, all of Bellefontaine; Sweetie Pie’s, West Liberty; The Brown Bean, Lakeview; and Gathering Grounds, Russells Point.
